  • 2 year appointment, available immediately
  • Salary range: Level A $48,905 - $66,367 p.a. - minimum starting salary for appointee with PhD will be $61,827 p.a.
  • Closing date: Friday, 14 March 2008

The ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology includes four research teams undertaking research into organelle function and plant metabolism using functional genomics approaches in Arabidopsis. The Centre has state-of-the-art equipment for proteomics and metabolomics approaches and major resources for microarray analysis, plant genetics, imaging and computing.

A Research Associate is required to work on proteomic analysis of changes in mitochondrial function in plants during oxidative and environmental stress. The project will involve use of quantitative proteomic techniques, protein-protein interaction by monoclonal antibody based immuno-precipitation, purification of intact organelles and membranes and assessment of oxidative damage to mitochondrial proteins. Applicants must have a PhD in protein biochemistry or molecular biology, or related discipline. For further information regarding the research please visit the Centre website, or contact Professor Harvey Millar by email: hmillar(at)cyllene.uwa.edu.au.

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (REF: 2135)

This position is funded through an ARC Discovery Grant and combines biochemistry and genetic approaches to answer questions related to the evolution of sexual reproduction in honey bees. Using high resolution protein separation techniques, mass spectrometry and molecular biology this position is aimed to unravel the sophisticated interactions between ejaculates and the female in order to gain insight into the molecular basis of sexual conflicts in this organism. The work is done in collaboration with the Centre of Excellence in Evolutionary Biology, based at UWA and in close cooperation with beekeepers of Western Australia.

CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR PLANT METABOLOMICS

Visit our website: http://www.plantmetabolomics.net.au

RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (REF: 2091)

This is an outstanding opportunity to be involved in an exciting research initiative in a World-class research centre in a city with exceptional quality of life. The Centres of Excellence for Plant Metabolomics and Plant Energy Biology employ metabolomic and genetic approaches to study molecular plant physiology using Arabidopsis as the model. The Centres have state-of-the-art facilities for metabolomics, proteomics, microarrays, plant genetics, imaging and computing.

The research project will involve fundamental studies using a range of molecular and genetic tools to understand the mechanisms of lipid signaling in plants. We have discovered that modifications to fatty acid metabolism can influence the number, size and mobility of sub-cellular organelles, and can modify seed germination, vegetative growth and flowering. We have been able to significantly increase plant growth and seed yield by changing lipid metabolism.

  • 2 year appointment - with further employment dependent on funding
  • Salary Range: Level A $48,905 - $66,367 p.a. minimum starting salary for appointee with PhD will be $61,827 p.a.
